Do five lined skinks make good pets?

if they don’t then what other type of skink is, don’t say blue-tongued skinks already had them before. no they are quick and not very handleable unless you are looking for more of a “show animal” they are not that great.have you tried soloman island skinks, or pink tongued skinks, or monkey tailed skinks (dont know if that is their real name i cant remember it) or orange eyed crocodile skinks.

How should I feed my turtles?

I am going to feed them a pellet based diet. But I would like to feed them apples, lettuce, fish, and carrots around that.Is there anything else I can feed them or is that too much? I would feed them every night and the treats with the main food every other night. Is this fine? Also, I wanted to know how to feed them.I wanted to feed them in a separate container but I don’t know what kind of container I should use.To clean the tank, I have one of those sponge magnets but I was wondering if I have to change that or use that with another sponge? With water changes, I’m not really the modern type so if I could just take them out of the tank and scoop out the water and put some more water in, about lukewarm.I keep the water at 82 degrees. Is that fine? How much water should I take out? All of it or 50 percent or what? With the fish, should I just put the fish in the water with them and they will kill and eat them? Will they eat them when they die or should I kill them? What kind of fish … Continue reading

My turtle won’t eat and backs away from me?

Basically I’ve had my turtle since yesterday, and he/she won’t eat what I’ve given it today, I tried hand feeding it shrimps and bloodworms what were recomened but it just ignored the food. And I even put it into the tank for it to eat and so far its not ate anything.I’m getting worried it may just eat some of the gravel or something.Another thing is that it keeps backing away whenever I go near it People are so ignorant on here..sorry for the stupid answerers before me.. He might just have some kind of turtle anxiety (seriously) b/c of the change in environment.I would call a local fish place and ask them what they think if he still doesn’t eat within the next 12 hrs..and as far as him backin away from you, he probably just is nervous or not very sociable..hopefully with time he will learn his new environment and feel more comfortable, then get to be comfortable when you come around as well..this is all new to him and he’s a wild animal, they don’t think the same way a dog would, so don’t take it personal. But def call a local fish/animal place or even maybe a vet … Continue reading

Can anyone suggest good lizard pets?

Looking for something no larger than 20″.I have 2 bearded dragons, 2 leopard geckos, used to have 2 water dragons and 2 crested geckos also.I would not like anything that needs to swim, or anything that can stick to glass (as I don’t like lids on my terrariums). I’m also not interested in snakes, scorpions, spiders, etc. I’m not worried about the cost really, depending on the lizard. My highest would be around $120 to $150. Also, please don’t suggest tokay geckos.>_< An Australian Frilled Dragon-awesome.The link below has some pics and care sheet info:http://zoocrewkids.blogspot.com/ i know this is out of your size range but i would suggest an iguana.i have an iguana and i love it!! she/he is one of my most favorite things in the world!!! they do need moisture but they don’t need to swim just simply spray them with water as you probably already know.they are easy to feed because you can feed them fresh cut up vegetables and fruits.i think if you got an iguana that you would Absolutely love it.i know do.and i have to warn even though you seem like a reptile person don’t let the iguana near a ferret.just thought to include that … Continue reading

How do i convince my parents to lit me have an asian water montior?

I have a pet parakeet and 2 dogs.My dad says no more animals.my mom says no.I really want an Asian water monitor.I have straight “a’s” and i take good care of my bird. Its not the responsibly they are concerned about its that they hate reptiles.i always do research and i have experience with other amphibians and reptiles! please help! Did i mention im only 11? Well, maybe start out with something small to prove yourself to take good care of a reptile.im not saying you wouldnt be able to care for one, im saying to show ur parents you could.Thats what i do.start out with small, get bigger each year.lol im 12 and it works for me 13 lizards, 2 turtles, 2 snakes.biggies.Then when they see you are able to care for them, try again to ask.Maybe get ur buddy to help you get a smaller reptile, like leopard gecko.bring it home and say its a present or something.if they dont make you get rid of it, then keep it and work up to a monitor and when or if you get a monitor, be careful.they get big and mean does this help any??? okay, there is absolutely no way … Continue reading

Breeding fancy mice as feeders?

Starting a breeder project to feed my growing snake collection. Can get plain white lab feeder males but can only find females in fancy.will have two females to one male to start off.will a project this small put off too much odor to keep in say an apartment closet? Whats the cheapest easiest way to feed them? Probably use aspen bedding, will this be ok and will it stink pretty fast or if I spot clean will the bedding last two weeks or so before having to be changed completely? Is there a bedding cheaper and easier to clean? Just looking for some quick tips to save money, it will be a very small scale project.thanks in advance I’m just going to give you advise from my personal experience in breeding mice.I absoloutly hated it.It was so much work with the cleaning.I used to spot clean twice a day and dump out everything and do a complete clean every few days and this was not enough to stop my apartment from reeking of rodent urine. The most vile, strongest smell ever!! I was so embarrassed to even have people come to my apartment it was so awful. After a few weeks of this, … Continue reading

I found a lizard about two inches long in my house what do i feed it?

He/she is probably about 2 inches long and i have seen one like this before and it can change colors.im not sure what to feed it so…house hold things please? i wiil go out and search for bugs or whatever if i have to.also i dont know what enviorment to put it in because it was just in my house under the counter so if you have any info on that please help.=] thanks If you are still online, I would like to know what type it is.From the ‘changing colors’ part, It sounds like an anole to me.To be honest, I think you should let it go.Some people may say it’s cruel, but I don’t think so.Everyone has a need to take care of animals, even small lizards. But it will eventually die from stress, or starvation, whichever comes first. But if you want to keep it, I’ll tell you. If you have a 10 gallon tank, you should start with that.A jar is fine for the next 24 HOURS.If it stays in there any longer, it will get stressed out even more, from my own experience. On a thin bottom layer, abut one inch, put soft dirt (Make layer thicker if … Continue reading

Are leopard geckos hard to take care of? and how much do they half to eat each week?

I need to kno soo i can prove to my mom that i can get a leopard gecko and that there not that hard to take care of! no, theyr not that hard..you feed them either once evry day or evry other day.all they need are crickets, meal-worms, a heat lamp, and a hiding place really.maybe even a uvb light.almost all these are available at petco.be sure to feed them enough and you should be set Erm… If you’re not prepared to do your own research, then you aren’t ready.Sorry.): But, I’ll still answer your question. Yes, they are easy to take care of once you get into a routine, and are very hardy creatures, making them superb first pets. You take however much they will eat in twenty minutes (more if they are having trouble catching food or still show interest) and feed that amount to them every day or every other day.Take the cost of your feeder insect and do the math. A few tips: Write a care-sheet/essay to show your Mom that you’re committed. Join a reptile forum (I love Reptile Boards, Fauna Classifieds is good too). There, you can meet friendly, knowledgeable people who will be more … Continue reading

Which monitor lizard should i get?

I am stuck between the Black-Throat Monitor and the Argus Monitor. Please help! Please dont answer if your going to call me inexperienced!:) Youre 11 years old and some dogs and parakeets is not experience to undertake a monitor especially a species that gets about 5ft long.I am very experienced and own tons of reptiles and my savannah monitor is a handful there is no way an 11 year old kid can do it.Full grown they need an enclosure that’ll take up well over half of a room they also need a basking spot of 120* F can you provide that in a year and half? They eat like monsters and have a seemingly never ending appetite. They have incredibly sharp claws go talk to someone who has owned big lizards and have them show you the scars on their arms from their animals. The animal doesnt realize their power whether theyre tame or not you will get scratched.Theyre teeth can inflict incredibly deep and painful bites which will send you to the hospital for stitches. What are you going to do when you head to college in 6 or 7 years? It’ll still be there and be big as hell i dont think … Continue reading
